Our route to Crato takes us through the town of Estremoz, whose medieval fortifications we can recognise from afar. We drive into the medieval town centre and stop off at the Pousada de Estremoz, which is housed in the former castle palace and whose origins date back to the 15th century. It offers us a unique view of the vastness of the Alentejo. On our onward journey to Crato, we take in the expansive Alentejo landscape. We pass villages characterised by fortifications and whitewashed houses. In Crato, we are accommodated in the historic Pousada Flor da Rosa, a former monastery of the Order of Malta dating back to the 14th century. We review our first day in the Alentejo over a typical dinner.
The journey to Marvão takes us through the Parque Nacional da Serra de São Mamede. The impressive fortifications of the summit village of Marvão provide us with a marvellous view over the vast Alentejo as far as the Spanish border. Here we have a typical local lunch and make our way back to Crato. We pass endless cork oak forests and stop off in small villages such as Castelo da Vide and Nisa, which impress with their village centres with narrow alleyways and whitewashed houses and tell the story of the northern Alentejo. At the Pousada de Crato, we end the day with a typical local dinner.

FAQs
Vintage Tours' tours are designed to give you plenty of time to enjoy the wonderful landscapes and cultural highlights that we have selected for you. On your road trip through the northern Alentejo, you will cover around 150 kilometres each day in your vintage car, usually half in the morning and the other half after the lunch break.
Your road trip through the northern Alentejo is characterised by the unique landscapes that you explore on picturesque roads - but also by history, culture and unique cuisine. By visiting the towns of Elvas and Évora, we bring centuries of history on the Iberian peninsula to life for you. You will also visit the most beautiful towns and villages in the border region between Portugal and Spain with their impressive city walls and fortresses. They blend into the hilly landscapes of the Alentejo and Extremadura.
The trips take around two and a half hours in the morning and afternoon. On the way, we stop at places that are particularly worth seeing - where you can take in the wonderful scenery, historical highlights as well as impressive castles and fortresses.
For your lunch break, selected restaurants in historic buildings await you, serving typical local dishes. We will provide you with sufficient drinks for the journey.
You will receive a road book at the start of the tour, in which the routes are described in detail. This gives you the opportunity to set your own pace on the sections of your vintage tour and linger where you particularly like it.
We have selected historic pousadas for overnight stays during the tour, including the Pousadas Convento de Arraiolos, Convento Flor da Rosa and Convento de Vila Viçosa. These are located in former monasteries. The Convento Flor da Rosa in Crato, for example, is one of the best-preserved Gothic-style buildings in the whole of Portugal. Here, modern architecture meets history and makes the history of Portugal tangible.
Our vintage tours are selected so that drivers with less driving experience can also enjoy these road trips. We cover medium distances on the tour through the picturesque Alentejo. We therefore also invite less experienced vintage car fans to take part in our tours and enjoy the special flair of our MGAs - perhaps this will be a wonderful introduction to a new passion for you!
After your arrival at the hotel, you will receive a comprehensive introduction to our MGAs and also have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the car on a short test drive and get ready for your vintage tour.
We take care of the transport of your luggage between the individual stages - so you can cover the day's stages with a small amount of hand luggage.
Our MGAs offer weather protection - so we will try to organise the tours as planned even in bad weather - because the tour is worth it!
Our MGAs are more than 60 years old and require a careful hand - this is our express wish for you!
The group size is a maximum of 10 participants. This allows us to respond much better to your individual needs and gives you the opportunity to exchange ideas with your fellow travellers - if you like.
The total distance of this road trip tour is around 650 kilometres.
