Vintage Tours 2027: Discover the Douro Valley in an MGA Roadster.

A journey through wine, culture, history and unique landscapes – along roads off the beaten track.

Following its successful launch in 2026, Vintage Tours is once again offering its classic car journey through the Douro Valley in 2027. The Vintage Tour through the Douro Valley combines the pleasure of driving a classic MGA Roadster with the region’s exceptional cultural heritage, its centuries-old wine-growing tradition, its outstanding cuisine and overnight stays in top-class hotels.

Rather than following the usual tourist routes, the Vintage Tour winds its way through the Douro Valley along quiet roads, winding stretches and through stunning countryside. This gives Vintage Tours’s guests plenty of time to enjoy both the classic cars and the journey itself at their own pace.

The Douro Valley is home to the Alto Douro wine region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a cultural landscape shaped by viticulture over the centuries. Wine has been grown here for almost 2,000 years. Steep vineyard terraces, historic quintas, natural stone walls and roads winding through the countryside create an extraordinary setting for driving a classic car. The MGA Roadster’s open cockpit ensures that the ever-changing sights, sounds and unique atmosphere become an integral part of the journey.

The Vintage Tour through the Douro Valley is far more than just a classic car trip.

During the journey, guests stay in carefully selected wine hotels that are closely linked to the wine culture and history of the Douro Valley. These hotels offer a unique insight into the region – combined with tastings of local wines and culinary experiences shaped by the traditions and ingredients of the Douro Valley. Traditional Portuguese cuisine is sometimes complemented by modern interpretations, giving it a gastronomic dimension all of its own.

The classic car tour also takes in some of the region’s most significant cultural treasures.

One of the highlights of the classic car tour through the Douro Valley is a visit to Casa de Mateus, an impressive Baroque palace near Vila Real. In addition to its architecture and historic gardens, the estate offers a fascinating insight into Portuguese history and the country’s cultural life. The Fundação Casa de Mateus was founded in 1970 and is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the estate’s historical heritage and collections. It is also involved in numerous cultural, scientific and educational projects.

The Vintage Tour also takes you to the Côa Valley, which is home to one of the most significant collections of prehistoric rock art in the open air in Europe. The rock engravings, some of which are around 22,000 years old, offer a direct encounter with the earliest known artistic and symbolic forms of expression of human communities on the Iberian Peninsula. A visit to the Côa Museum and the archaeological sites adds another extraordinary dimension to the journey – spanning from the history of viticulture right back to the prehistoric past.

Two seasons – two different ways to experience the Douro Valley.

The Vintage Tours tours of the Douro Valley will be offered in spring and autumn 2027 – two seasons which each lend the Douro Valley its very own character.

In spring, the landscape is particularly vibrant and a rich shade of green. Almond and cherry blossoms add further splashes of colour at this time of year. In autumn, the vineyards begin to take on warm hues, and depending on when you visit, you may have the chance to experience the grape harvest – one of the most important moments in the Douro’s annual cycle.

The routes have been deliberately designed to allow guests to experience the impressive Douro Valley at their own pace. Roads with little traffic and carefully selected stops provide the opportunity to take in the vast expanse and diversity of the landscape. The road trip in the MGA Roadsters offers an authentic and particularly immersive way to experience the region.

A unique blend of culture, cuisine and first-class hospitality.

„The idea behind our Vintage Tour into the Douro Valley is to create a journey in which the classic car, the road and the destination come together to form a shared experience. The MGA Roadster offers an ideal opportunity to explore the Douro Valley in depth, as it connects the driver and passenger directly with the landscape. At the same time, our carefully curated programme allows participants to get to know and enjoy the region’s wines, cuisine, history and culture in a very exclusive way,“ says Matthias Haux, founder and managing director of Vintage Tours.

The combination of classic cars, exceptional hospitality and carefully selected cultural and culinary experiences makes the Vintage Tour through the Douro Valley a journey for those who wish to discover the charm of the Douro Valley at a different pace and from a different perspective.
