Your road trip

After your arrival in Porto at the Palacio do Freixo, we start with a detailed introduction to the itinerary. We will then visit Vila Nova de Gaia, the town on the southern bank of the Douro River, where the famous port wine cellars are located. A joint visit to a winery rounds off the afternoon. The day ends with dinner together in the stately hall of the Palacio do Freixo. You will get to know the other participants on your Vintage Tour, with whom you share a passion for classic cars.

We travel together along the southern bank of the river to Porto Antigo, where we have lunch together with a view of the Douro. At this point, we can see the vast expanse of the river. We then continue along the south bank of the Douro to Pinhão, always with a view of the Douro. We observe how the river valley is slowly changing its character and how wine-growing in the characteristic terraced form is increasing. We check into the Vintage House, one of the most renowned wine hotels in the Douro Valley. At one of the oldest wineries in the Alto Douro, we are introduced to the long history of winegrowing on the Douro - always with a view of the river in the valley. A dinner together at the winery rounds off the evening.

We set off in the morning in the direction of Vila Nova do Foz Côa to visit the unique Palaeolithic rock engravings there. What makes the Côa Valley so unique is the fact that nowhere else in the world has such a large number of Palaeolithic depictions been found in the open air. In 1998, they were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The route to Foz Côa takes us along the south bank of the river through the Alto Douro wine-growing region. After visiting the museum, we enjoy lunch together and cross the Douro to return to Pinhão on its north side. The route takes us back through the vineyards and gives us a marvellous view of the course of the river. We end the day with dinner together at the Vintage House restaurant.

On the last day, we leave the Douro Valley to visit the Mateus winery, which is known for its rosé wines, among other things. We then continue our journey to Amarante. The town is known as the centre of Douro winegrowing. Here we will have lunch together before continuing our journey to Porto. Here you have the option of starting your journey home or spending another night in Porto at the Palacio do Freixo (can be booked individually).

FAQs

What criteria does my own classic car have to fulfil in order to take part in your Vintage Tour?

We would be delighted if you would take part in our Vintage Tours with your own classic car and share your passion with us. As we attach great importance to having a uniform field of drivers on our Vintage Tours, your classic car should be similar to our MGAs in terms of vehicle type, year of manufacture and engine.

What is the total distance covered on this Vintage Tour through the Alto Douro?

On this road trip through the Alto Douro, we will cover a total distance of around 600 kilometres.

How long are the daily distances?

We have planned your Vintage Tour so that, in addition to driving our classic cars, you also have enough time to enjoy the landscape and culture. On your Douro tour, you will cover around 150 kilometres each day in your vintage car. We have planned sufficient breaks between the individual stages.

What are the special sights on this tour?

This tour is characterised by the wonderful landscape of the Douro Valley and the Alto Douro wine-growing region. On carefully selected routes, you will discover partly deserted and majestic landscapes. This promises pure driving pleasure paired with unique impressions.

What can participants expect in Vila Nova de Foz Côa?

In Vila Nova de Foz Côa, we find evidence of people who migrated to the Iberian Peninsula from Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia many thousands of years ago and became the inhabitants of this region. Here, in the endless hills and valleys, they made their home and left their mark with images of bulls carved in stone. These Palaeolithic petroglyphs are unique in the world

Is the tour also suitable for inexperienced classic car drivers?

The winding tour, which is full of scenic surprises, requires a high level of concentration and a bit of driving skill from the drivers. Nevertheless, the tour is also very suitable for less experienced drivers who enjoy their classic vehicle.

Is there enough time for individual activities?

You will receive a road book at the start of the tour, in which the routes are described in detail. This gives you the opportunity to set your own pace on the sections of your vintage tour and linger where you particularly like it.

How is luggage transported?

We take care of the transport of your luggage between the individual stages - so you can cover the day's stages with a small amount of hand luggage.

What is the alternative in bad weather?

We will always try to organise our tours as planned even in bad weather - because the tour is worth it!
