Your road trip
After your arrival in Lisbon, our transfer service will take you to your accommodation, the Pousada do Convento de Arraiolos, which is housed in a 16th century convent and will delight art lovers with its chapel decorated with Portuguese tiles. Our perfectly maintained MGAs are waiting on the forecourt of the monastery complex for a detailed introduction. Over dinner together in the dining room of the Convento da Senhora da Assunçao, you will get to know the participants of your Vintage Tour, with whom you will spend the next few days.
Our route to Crato takes us through the town of Estremoz, whose medieval fortifications are recognisable from afar. We drive into the medieval town centre and stop off at the Pousada de Estremoz, which is housed in the former castle palace whose origins date back to the 15th century. From here, you can enjoy a unique view of the Alentejo countryside. On our onward journey to Crato, we take in the expansive Alentejo landscape. We pass villages characterised by fortifications and whitewashed houses. In Crato, we are accommodated in the historic Pousada Flor da Rosa, a former monastery of the Order of Malta dating back to the 14th century. After an aperitif in the unique vaults of the monastery, we round off the day with dinner together and reflect on the day's unique stage.
On our way to Cáceres, we cross the Parque Nacional da Serra de S. Mamede. We pass the impressive fortifications of Marvão, a hilltop village from where we have a unique view of the Alentejo as far as Extremadura. We continue through unspoilt landscapes, endless olive groves and cork oak forests until we reach Cáceres, one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe. The tour through the "city of 1001 coats of arms" takes us back in time. We are surrounded by mansions, Renaissance palaces and church towers inhabited by storks that bear witness to different eras. After an extensive visit to the town centre of Cáceres, we set off for Trujillo and can see the enchanting mountain town with its characteristic silhouette from afar. Here we will spend the night in the historic Parador, a 16th century monastery. We will have dinner in the beautiful vaults of the former monastery church.
We continue through picturesque landscapes to Mérida, which has one of the best-preserved Roman monument ensembles in the world. Here we stroll through the city centre and take time to visit the monuments of Roman culture and sample the typical Extremadura tapas in the bars. We then continue southwards and cross extensive oak groves until we arrive in the town of Zafra, also known as "little Seville". After a tour of the picturesque town centre, we check into the Parador de Zafra, which is housed in the former Alcázar of Zafra. We enjoy dinner in the unique inner courtyard of the Alcázar, which is famous for its Renaissance cloisters.
We leave Zafra and cross the Alentejo in the direction of Évora. On our way, we pass the impressive Mourão reservoir, which is characterised by many small sandy beaches. We take a break in Reguengos de Monsaraz and continue our road trip to Évora, the queen of the Alentejo. The historic centre of Évora offers impressive architectural gems from Roman times to the Renaissance. We take time to visit the Roman temple and the Gothic cathedral before enjoying lunch together in the unique pousada in the Convento de Évora. The route then takes us to Beja, one of the southernmost points of the Alentejo. Here we check into the Pousada Convento de Beja and meet for dinner together in the former chapel of the monastery - a unique experience that will stay with you for a long time!
Picturesque roads lead us to Alcácer do Sal, including sections of the famous N2, which - lined with cork oak forests - connects the entire country of Portugal from north to south. At the Convento Alcácer do Sal, we will have a final lunch together. You then have the choice of spending the night at the Convento de Alcácer do Sal or travelling home.

On your road trip through the Alentejo, you will cover around 200 kilometres a day in your vintage car on picturesque roads, usually half in the morning and the other half after lunch. Overall, this road trip is aimed at participants who enjoy travelling longer distances in a classic car.
Your road trip through the Alentejo to Extremadura is characterised by the unique landscapes that you explore on picturesque roads. But also history, culture and unique cuisine. By visiting the historically significant cities of Cáceres, Mérida and Évora, we bring centuries of history on the Iberian peninsula to life for you. You will also drive through typical Alentejo villages and pass old fortifications in the border region between Portugal and Spain, which are embedded in the hilly landscape of the Alentejo and Extremadura and tell of the long history of this border region.
The trips take around two and a half hours in the morning and afternoon. On the way, we stop at places that are particularly worth seeing - where you can take in the wonderful scenery, historical highlights as well as impressive castles and fortresses.
For your lunch break, we have selected restaurants serving typical local dishes. We will provide you with sufficient drinks for the journey.
You will receive a road book at the start of the tour, in which the selected routes are described in detail. This gives you the opportunity to set your own pace on the sections of your vintage tour and linger where you particularly like it.
We have selected both historic pousadas and paradores for overnight stays during the tour. These include the Pousada Flor da Rosa in Crato. This is one of the most sought-after pousadas in Portugal and is housed in a former monastery of the Order of Malta from the 14th century, where traces of the original architecture can still be seen.
This vintage tour through the Alentejo and Extremadura is characterised by the longer distances we cover every day. This has a special charm, as it allows us to experience the diversity of the region in our MGAs. However, it also requires a certain amount of stamina from both driver and passenger. Nevertheless, we also invite classic car fans with little driving experience to take part in this vintage tour and enjoy the special flair of our MGAs - perhaps this will be a wonderful introduction to a new passion for you!
After your arrival at the hotel, you will receive a comprehensive introduction to our MGAs and also have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the car on a short test drive and get ready for your vintage tour.
We take care of the transport of your luggage between the individual stages - so you can cover the day's stages with a small amount of hand luggage.
Our MGAs offer weather protection - so we will try to organise the tours as planned even in bad weather - because the tour is worth it!
Our MGAs are more than 60 years old and require a careful hand - this is our express wish for you!
The group size is a maximum of 10 participants. This allows us to respond much better to your individual needs and gives you the opportunity to exchange ideas with your fellow travellers - if you like.
The total distance of this road trip is around 1,000 kilometres. This vintage tour is therefore particularly aimed at participants who are keen to drive.
