Your road trip
After your arrival at the Parador in Carmona, which is housed in a former Andalusian-style town palace, you will receive a comprehensive introduction to the operation of our perfectly maintained MGAs, which you will use to travel from Andalusia to Extremadura over the next few days. We then invite you on a tour of the historic old town of Carmona, which is more than 2,000 years old. Together we will explore the Necrópolis Romana, the largest Roman necropolis on Spanish soil. On our return to the Parador, we will enjoy an aperitif together in the columned courtyard of the former Moorish castle and a typical dinner in the Parador's restaurant, which is housed in the former refectory.
On our way from Carmona to Córdoba, we leave the Sierra Morena and the Sierra de Hornachuelos, which are still home to the Iberian eagle, to the north. Our road trip passes endless olive groves, fields and Andalusian villages where the Moorish influence can still be felt. Then we reach Córdoba, one of the most beautiful cities on the Iberian Peninsula. After our check-in at the Parador, we will visit the city's two most important cultural monuments: the Alcazar and the Mezquita Cathedral, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. After our visit to the Mezquita, we stroll through the long alleyways of the old town. The many bars invite you to try the delicious typical tapas. We also have the opportunity to savour typical local fare during our evening meal together.
Today we have one of the longest journeys ahead of us, as we will cover almost 300 kilometres before reaching Trujillo. Before we set off, we take time to visit the excavations of the former Nasrid palace city of Medina Azhara, which is not far from Córdoba. We then make our way northwards and drive through a beautiful landscape characterised by olive groves. As soon as we reach Extremadura, vast oak forests and striking rock formations replace the olive groves. Our destination, the magnificent Parador of Trujillo, awaits us in the medieval old town. Here we review the many impressions of the day over dinner together in the Gothic vaults.
We start the fourth day with a visit to Cáceres, the "city of 1001 coats of arms". A tour of the town centre will take you back in time as you are surrounded by mansions, Renaissance palaces and church towers. We then make our way southwards and drive through the vast cork oak forests that characterise the Extremadura on beautiful roads. The further south we go, the more barren the landscape becomes and soon the olive groves once again characterise the landscape. We reach Zafra and treat ourselves to a short walk through the medieval centre before having dinner together in the unique columned courtyard of the Parador of Zafra.
The last day of our journey takes us back to Carmona. Another unique journey through the vastness of Andalusia lies ahead of us and we take plenty of time to stop and rest in the most beautiful villages along the way. In Carmona we have lunch together and you have the option of taking the airport transfer to Seville or spending another night in beautiful Carmona (can be booked individually).
